What is occupational exhaustion syndrome (burnout)?

First described by psychiatrist Herbert Freudenberger, burnout is a state of physical and mental exhaustion caused by chronic occupational stress—resulting from a persistent imbalance between energy expenditure (workload, disorganization, workplace tension) and energy recovery (recognition, meaning, support).

What to Do When Facing Burnout

If you suspect occupational exhaustion, first consult your primary care physician or psychiatrist to confirm the diagnosis and assess the need for medical leave. Specialized psychotherapeutic follow-up is strongly recommended to rebuild balance and prevent somatic or psychiatric complications.

Dedicated LaConsultation Program

Our organization offers a specialized program for individuals experiencing burnout, consisting of an initial individual consultation, four two-hour group sessions, and tailored individual follow-up led by specialists in occupational health.
